Reference since 1751, Ferreira has always been synonymous with high‑quality Portuguese wine. The brand’s history intertwines with the development of the Demarcated Douro Region, established in 1756, and its Port and dry wines. Years later, the family business was run by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial acumen, she gave a major boost to Douro viticulture and developed a notable social‑assistance program in the area. Upon her death, the company became a private limited partnership and entered a new phase of expansion, always upholding its core values. Those values have carried Ferreira to the present day and were instrumental in creating legendary wines such as the famed Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, the company has led the national Port wine market and introduced prestigious labels like Quinta da Leda.
