Established since 1751, Ferreira has always been synonymous with high‑quality Portuguese wine. Its story is intertwined with the evolution of the demarcated Douro region, set up in 1756, and its port and still wines. Years later, the family business was run by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she gave a significant boost to viticulture in the Douro and developed a notable social‑assistance activity in the area. After her death, the company became a limited partnership and entered a new phase of expansion, always maintaining its core values. These values carried Ferreira into the present and were instrumental in creating wines such as the legendary Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, which has come to dominate the national port wine market and also presents prestigious brands such as Quinta da Leda.
