Since 1751, Ferreira has been synonymous with high‑quality Portuguese wine. The brand’s history intertwines with that of the Douro's Demarcated Region, established in 1756, and its Port and dry wines. Years later, the family company was run by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial acumen, she gave viticulture in the Douro a major boost and developed a notable social‑service program in the area. After her death, the business became a limited‑company and entered a new expansion phase, always upholding its core values. Those values have carried Ferreira into the present day and were instrumental in creating iconic wines such as the legendary Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, the company has led the national Port market and introduced prestigious wine labels like Quinta da Leda.
