Referenced since 1751, Ferreira has long been a synonym for high‑quality Portuguese wine. Its history intertwines with the evolution of the Demarcated Douro Region, set out in 1756, and its Port and dry wines. Years later the family firm was managed by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II, whose exceptional energy and rare commercial talent gave a major boost to Douro viticulture and fostered a noted social‑assistance program in the area. After her death the company became a limited partnership, entering a new expansion phase while keeping its core values—values that have carried Ferreira to the present day and were key to creating the legendary Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, it has led the national Port market and continues to present prestigious brands such as Quinta da Leda.
