Since 1751, Ferreira has always been a synonym for high‑quality Portuguese wine. The brand’s history is intertwined with the evolution of the Demarcated Douro Region, established in 1756, and its Port and still wines. Years later, the family company was led by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she gave a significant boost to viticulture in the Douro and developed a notable social‑assistance activity in the area. After her death, the company became a partnership and entered a new phase of expansion while keeping its core values. These values have carried Ferreira to the present day and were instrumental in creating wines such as the legendary Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under Sogrape Vinhos’ management, the company has led the national Port‑wine market and introduced prestigious brands such as Quinta da Leda.
