Referenced since 1751, Ferreira has always been a synonym for Portuguese wine of great quality. The brand’s history intertwines with the evolution of the Demarcated Region of the Douro, defined in 1756, and its Port wines and still wines. Years later, the family business came under the management of Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she gave a major boost to viticulture in the Douro and developed a notable social‑assistance activity in the region. With her death the company became a limited partnership and entered a new phase of expansion, always keeping its core values. These values have carried Ferreira to the present and were instrumental in creating wines such as the legendary Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, the company has led the national Port‑wine market and continues to showcase prestigious brands, such as Quinta da Leda.
