Since 1751, Ferreira has always been a synonym for high‑quality Portuguese wine. The brand’s history intertwines with the evolution of the Demarcated Douro Region, established in 1756, and its Ports and still wines. Years later, the family company came under the management of Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she gave a great boost to viticulture in the Douro and developed a notable social‑assistance activity in the region. With her death, the company became a limited partnership and entered a new phase of expansion, always preserving its core values. These values have carried Ferreira to the present day and were instrumental in creating wines such as the legendary Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, which has become the national leader in Port wine and also presents prestigious wine brands such as Quinta da Leda.
