Since 1751, Ferreira has always been synonymous with high‑quality Portuguese wine. The brand’s history intertwines with the evolution of the Demarcated Douro Region, established in 1756, and its Port and still wines. Years later, the family business was managed by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she boosted viticulture in the Douro and pioneered a notable social‑assistance initiative in the area. Upon her death the company became a limited partnership and entered a new expansion phase, always upholding its core values. Those values carried Ferreira to the present day and were key to creating iconic wines such as the legendary Barca Velha of the 1950s. Since 1987, under Sogrape Vinhos’ management, the company has led the national Port wine market and introduced prestigious brands like Quinta da Leda.
