The oldest records of the winery date back to 1605. It was founded by Fritz, a countryman who, over the course of his life, passed on his love of viticulture to his descendants. In 1957 Wilhelm Haag, son of Mr. Fritz, took over the winery and steered it with mastery toward a future of success. Wilhelm was the first man to receive the title of “Winemaker of the Year,” a coveted award granted by the Gault Millau Guide. Today the property is run by Oliver Hagg, Wilhelm’s son, and spans 17.5 hectares of vineyards planted exclusively with Riesling. The Mosel region, where the winery and its vineyards are located, enjoys an excellent micro‑climate and slate‑based soil— the primary reason for the unique character of its wines.
