In 1927, eleven partners led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), giving it a history of over 80 years. The company began exporting immediately to Brazil, Africa, and Europe, and today more than half of its production is destined for export, mainly wines, sparkling wines, and spirits—Aliança’s brand image in Portugal and in about 60 countries worldwide. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group and changing the corporate name from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point the corporate image was also updated. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has developed a wide range of wines over the years that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both national and international consumers. With a presence in seven Portuguese wine regions, a total of 1,200 hectares of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties, and four winemaking centres (cellars), the company distinguishes itself in the market by its size and 70 % autonomy in its own production.
