According to its age, the wines may show marks left by time, such as dust on the bottles and/or damage to the labels—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar keeps all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always preserves the visual appearance appropriate to each wine’s age. We usually select the brands/regions that normally perform well in old‑wine competitions. However, wine is a living organism, and like everything else, it is exposed to time; even inside a bottle, aromas can evolve in different ways. Therefore, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the quality of a vintage wine. Our recommendation is to open the bottle and let it breathe first, which will help release the natural aromas after so many years of aging. Avoid decanting, as that can be too aggressive for old wines. (Illustrative image)
