The Maroteira Estate is located at the foot of the Serra D’Ossa and covers 540 hectares, owned by the same Anglo‑Portuguese family for five generations since the mid‑19th century. At that time, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo sobro pasture to meet the needs of the Port wine industry in northern Portugal, and for about 150 years the focus of the estate’s production was cork and livestock. It was only in the year 2000 that Philip Mollet, the current owner and manager of the estate, revolutionised the farm’s strategy and planted vines. Since then, the estate has produced excellent Alentejo wines based on its preferred grape variety, Syrah. The vines are spread over 15 hectares planted in clay‑calcareous soils, giving the wines the genuine character of Alentejo.
