“This wine from Herdade Grande clearly shows a carefully considered approach – with night harvesting and mechanical picking, followed by a complete berry pressing. It seems the winemakers were a little wary of letting too much ‘energy’ develop in the must. The Verdelho and Alvarinho blend beautifully, with the Alvarinho flirting with a touch of French influence thanks to the French oak ageing, while the Verdelho offers its usual calm. A long ageing process, including batonnage and complete pressing, ensures the complexity unfolds slowly, like a well-kept secret. Delicious with freshly grilled fish or seafood rice.”
