Imalia is the latest project of Toro Albalá in Bierzo. The Montillanos ventured to the León enclave in search of vines that would win them over—and they did. Here they craft this red using the region’s queen grape, Mencía, drawing fruit from three distinct plots to achieve the desired complexity. Notes of red‑fruit compote, licorice, and spices unfold on a light palate, yet with plenty of personality. In the author's own words: “The blend of three carefully selected vines—a symbiosis that conveys a unique complexity.”
