Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has embarked on a long journey, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal began expanding, acquiring properties across the country and creating new paradigms in quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, the Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Bacalhôa Palace form an artistic monument of great importance to the country. Today, the Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, owned by the Berardo family, whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. On 23 June 1910, it was classified as a National Monument. In the area surrounding the Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
