Description

Kopke A C.N. Kopke is the oldest Port wine company. It was founded in 1638 by Cristiano Kopke and his son, Nicolau Kopke, who had come to Portugal as Consul of the Hanseatic League. After four centuries of success in the world of Port wines, the Kopke brand, acquired in 2006 by the Sogevinus group, is today a prestigious reference, maintaining the quality objectives that have guided it in the market over the years and is especially recognised for its Harvest Ports, with high notoriety in the sector. Each wine tells a story. In the case of Kopke Harvests, that story is unique. Tasting a wine is tasting history, and in the case of this Harvest, it recalls landmark events such as the release of The Beatles’ seventh English rock album – Revolver – which entered the list of the 200 definitive albums in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In the same year, the 25 de Abril Bridge, a suspension rail‑road bridge, was inaugurated, linking Lisbon to the south of the country. Vinification: Hand‑picked at the optimum point, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and vinified according to a process that relies on careful maceration to extract colour, tannins and aromas from the skins, complemented by regular punch‑downs during fermentation. This takes place in tanks at a controlled temperature between 28‑30 °C until the desired Baumé degree is reached. At this stage, brandy (benefit) is added, giving rise to a fortified wine. A wine of high quality, derived from a single harvest, is aged in oak for variable periods, never less than 7 years, before bottling at market request. Slightly chilled, the Kopke 1966 Port expresses all its finesse and sophistication when paired with caramel‑based desserts, dried fruits and spices, such as caramel fondant with apple and ginger jam, tarte Tatin, crème brûlée and medium‑intensity cheeses. Allergen information: Contains sulfites.
