Achelo is a delicate wine with a rich taste and an intense ruby‑purple hue, made exclusively from Syrah grapes to honour the historical and cultural importance of the Cortona region. The wine’s name was inspired by the Etruscan god Achelo, who appears on one of the most important Etruscan artefacts housed in the Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca in Cortona. It offers aromas of ripe red fruit and spices, highlighted by black pepper and licorice, complemented by pleasant floral notes of violets. Easy to drink, its palate is smooth, characterized by silky tannins and excellent freshness, while the finish is long and flavorful with notes of plum compote and vanilla. The Antinori family has been producing wine for over six centuries. Since 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri. Over 26 generations, the family has directly managed the business, making innovative and sometimes bold choices while maintaining an unaltered respect for tradition and territory. La Braccesca spans 508 hectares, encompassing the former Bracci estate, from which the estate’s name and coat of arms—an armored arm holding a sword—derive. Since 1990, the property has been owned by the Marchesi Antinori. (illustrative image)
