Depending on its age, the wines may show signs of time, such as dust residues on the bottles and/or damage to the labels—common in wines that have been stored for decades. Garrafeira Nacional commits to storing all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, but always chooses to preserve the visual appearance that reflects their age. We typically select brands/regions that perform well in old‑wine competitions. However, wine is a living organism, like others, exposed to time, and even within a bottle its aromas are subject to different evolutions. Therefore, Garrafeira Nacional cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, given that it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle air out beforehand, as this helps release the wine’s natural aromas after so many years closed.
