Very few producers—especially in Madeira wine—experience a revolution in their history as profound as the one that happened with Barbeito. To go from being a bulk wine supplier to becoming a reference point in the Madeira wine region is a remarkable achievement. Everything began in 1991 when Ricardo Freitas joined the family business and, together with the Japanese Kinoshita partners, turned Barbeito into one of the region’s most important Madeira wine producers.
