Very few producers, especially in Madeira wine, have experienced a revolution as dramatic as Barbeito’s. Transitioning from a bulk wine supplier to a regional reference overnight is a remarkable achievement. All of this unfolded in 1991 when Ricardo Freitas joined the family business and, together with the Japanese Kinoshita partners, set out to make Barbeito one of Madeira’s most prominent wine producers.
