This Malhadinha, hailing from the utterly enchanting Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, feels plucked straight from a Portuguese fairytale. Blending Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Aragonez, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s a wine promising far more than a straightforward red. Following 16 months aging in new French oak barrels, the result is a wine boasting a deep violet hue and intriguing notes of dark fruits mingled with tobacco. It presents a firm structure and undeniably seductive tannins. With its generous mouthfeel and lingering finish, this is a wine that certainly won’t disappoint – particularly alongside a hearty red meat or, perhaps, a mature, well-aged cheese. A truly deserving expression of its Alentejo terroir and those diverse grapes.
