This Mariposa Reserva, hailing straight from the Dão, clearly has a very close relationship with its grapes – hand-picked and meticulously sorted in the vineyard, you see. The fermentation, taking place in a granite lagar with traditional foot-treading, hints at a wonderfully artisanal approach. Primarily Touriga Nacional, it delivers a prominent presence, beautifully balanced by the influence of French oak barrels (“225 and 500L”), resulting in a remarkably smooth integration. On the palate, it’s a rich, mature wine with firm tannins – a testament to careful winemaking. Seriously, that hint of acetoin suggests a wine with a genuine soul. Ideal with a hearty boar roast, naturally.
