Aware of the tremendous potential of the Cantanhede terroir for producing superior‑quality wines, a group of 100 farmers founded the Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede in 1954. Today it boasts about 700 active associated viticulturists and an average annual grape harvest of 6 to 7 million kilograms. The cooperative is the main producer in the Demarcated Region of Bairrada, accounting for 30 – 40 % of the region’s total output and certifying roughly 80 % of its production, while standing out as a leading seller of DOC Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico wines.
