Aware of the enormous potential of the lands around Cantanhede for producing superior quality wines, a group of 100 farmers founded the Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede in 1954. Today, with around 700 active associate growers and an average annual grape yield of 6 to 7 million kilograms, the cooperative is the main producer of the Demarcated Region of Bairrada, representing 30–40 % of the region’s total output and certifying roughly 80 % of its wines, standing out as a leading seller of DOC Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico wines.
