Aware of the immense potential of Cantanhede’s lands for producing superior‑quality wines, a group of 100 farmers founded the Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede in 1954. Today, with around 700 active viticulturist members and an average annual grape production of 6‑7 million kilograms, the cooperative is the leading producer in the Demarcated Region of Bairrada, accounting for 30‑40 % of the region’s total output and certifying roughly 80 % of its production. It is a prominent leader in sales of DOC Bairrada wines and IG Beira Atlântico.
