“This Marqués de Riscal Verdelho is, quite frankly, a testament to weathering some serious conditions. Born from nearly centennial vines, largely untouched by enxertage and now embracing biodynamic practices, it boasts a wonderfully vibrant acidity (5.75g/l) and an unexpected freshness. Those scorching summers – pushing 40°C – clearly spurred an early harvest, ensuring perfectly healthy grapes. The relatively mild winters, thankfully avoiding significant frost, allowed for a remarkably balanced development. The six-month lees aging in French oak (Allier, Nevers, Vosges) – with weekly bâtonnage – only adds to the complexity, and it’s undeniably a wine that sings beautifully with a roasted duck and figs – the acidity and ripe fruit really making the flavours shine.”
