This deep reddish‑brown port offers concentrated flavors of sweet fruit with hints of spice, balanced by a gentle acidity. Barão de Vilar, Vinhos S.A. was founded in January 1996 from a stock of wines acquired by Fernando Luiz Van Zeller, who passed them to his two sons, Fernando and Álvaro. Its corporate name revives a noble title granted by Queen Maria II of Portugal to Cristiano Nicolau Kopke, the 1st Baron of Vilar, in 1836; by descent the title remains in direct family possession. Prior to the founding of Barão de Vilar, the Van Zeller family owned Quinta do Noval, one of the most renowned estates in the Port wine sector, from which the legendary “Vintage 1931 Nacional” originates—a wine deemed one of the two best in the world of the 20th century by *Wine Spectator*. Today, Barão de Vilar is known as Van Zeller Wine Collection, a company that represents a collection of values, ideas, stories, and wines. The bottling year may not match the image shown.
