The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who ran the business until 1973. To this day, the administration of Caves Messias remains in the hands of the Messias family's descendants. Since its founding, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the country's main demarcated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Port. The company is also renowned for the high quality of its Natural Sparkling wines and its aguardentes (brandies). The vintage year may not correspond to the image shown.
