This Messias Douro Superior clearly had a lively chat with its grapes beforehand – a promising sign! The almost rebellious fermentation, employing cold maceration and a healthy dose of spontaneity, has given it a wonderfully distinctive character. A year aging in French oak – with Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinto Cão – adds a layer of smoothness without sacrificing the signature acidity and nuances of the Douro. Absolutely brilliant with a slow-roasted beef dish, to really marry the vineyard’s rugged charm with the wine’s refined elegance.
