This Niepoort blend is a delightfully audacious dance between tradition and boldness. Grown in the schistous soils of Pombal and Murça, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate, it boasts a complexity that seems to have weathered the scorching summer of 1931 – the hottest on record. The nine-month oak aging subtly enhances the wine’s smoothness, revealing a surprising elegance despite its considerable concentration. As the Niepoort himself suggests, it’s a wine of two halves, a promise of eternal youth intertwined with the wisdom of time. Wonderful with fresh fish or a Mediterranean fruit salad.
