This Jaen from the Dão certainly seems to have had a lovely day – it’s been handled with a real tenderness. The hand-picked harvest and gentle crushing suggest a respect for the grapes, and the maceration, light and carefree, has produced a wine of inviting ruby colour, brimming with strawberry and raspberry aromas, a hint of red pepper, and surprisingly, a whisper of eucalyptus. The attack is smooth, the freshness is pronounced, and the tannins are remarkably round and velvety, almost like a warm embrace on the palate. A fantastic pairing with grilled sea bass, wouldn’t you agree?
