Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has travelled a long journey, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal began expanding, acquiring estates across the country and creating new paradigms in the production of quality wines. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still in existence in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great national significance. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Fundação Berardo, a family foundation headed by Commander José Berardo. It was classified as a National Monument on 23 June 1910. In the surrounding area of Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors can find picturesque villages, cellars and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
