The estate was purchased in 1863 by Baron Nathaniel Rothschild, who immediately renamed it from Château Mouton de Pauillac to its current name, Château Mouton Rothschild. It weathered a period of turbulence until 1922, when Baron Philippe de Rothschild took the reins of the property and quickly re‑established the château’s name at the forefront with its first bottlings in 1924. Today, Mouton Cadet is managed by his grandson, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, who continues to ensure the highest quality of the wines produced on the estate, preserving the Bordeaux terroir in every bottle. The château was reborn from the ashes with its first bottling in 1924. From the 1945 vintage onward, already recognized as a great wine, all labels began to be illustrated by famous contemporary artists such as Picasso, Chagall, Miró, and others. As recognition of its excellence, Château Mouton was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé, the elite of Médoc wines. Its wines are powerful and rich, yet possess a sense of finesse and a velvety texture when aged. They are truly magnificent and unforgettable. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes in proportions that vary year by year—though Cabernet Sauvignon always predominates—many wines have been born in this house over the years, and many stories have passed through the doors of the magnificent château. The wines speak for themselves; if they are among the most sought‑after worldwide, many of them rank among the finest wines ever produced. (Illustrative image only)
