The year 2019 was a constant challenge at the vineyard. We experienced an early flowering due to the hot weather in April and May, with several heat waves, and a high humidity that forced us to apply various treatments. By the end of June a heat wave struck, and in some parts of the Douro it resulted in grape scorch, especially in the more sensitive varieties such as Tinta Barroca. June was also marked by significant diurnal temperature swings. July continued to be crucial for vine development, as we can characterize it as cool. The year saw a substantial amount of precipitation in December, which played an important role in the vine’s later development, while autumn and winter precipitation was generally normal. The rainfall at the end of August was decisive for the potential quality of the year, allowing for an excellent maturation. These conditions led to a harvest that occurred 10 to 15 days earlier than usual. Awards Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Best Buys of the Year #20 Allergen information Contains sulfites.
