The grapes of Redoma Branco come from old vines on the right bank of the Douro River, situated at an altitude between 400 and 600 metres. In these vineyards the varieties Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Viosinho, Donzelinho and Gouveio dominate. Their micaceous soils produce wines with a pronounced mineral character, delicate and very fresh. In the Portuguese wine landscape, there is no producer more universally respected than Niepoort, whose long history began in 1842 with the first Van Der Niepoort arriving in Portugal. Starting as a merchant in the Port wine market, he quickly set up a prosperous and forward‑looking business. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born—a relentless producer in the wine world, recognised as one of the most important figures who has worked for and continues to champion Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while also building his legacy with those who constantly create irreverent wines. Today, Dirk Niepoort is involved in many other projects across almost all Portuguese wine regions and some overseas ones.
