This Niepoort Redoma Reserva Branco is a delightfully rebellious wine from the Douro, spearheaded by Dirk Niepoort himself. It’s spontaneously fermented in French oak, with carefully managed malolactic, and a graceful lees aging, resulting in a wine that refuses to be overly formal. The vibrant acidity – a signature of the schistous terroir and the winery’s old vines – provides a refreshing counterpoint to the complex aromas of white fruit, orange blossom, and intriguingly smoky, saline notes lingering on the finish. A truly sophisticated wine that, like its creator, only improves with age – perhaps best enjoyed with seafood or roasted poultry.
