Niepoort – A special limited edition of 100 units, with identity, image and production signed by Omdesign, entirely inspired by Dirk Niepoort, one of the most iconic and charismatic ambassadors of Port wine. The box, made of oak wood with silk‑screened elements titled “Rolf & The Collectors,” evokes an old toolbox. Inside, there is a bottle, four hand‑painted tiles that together reveal the famous phrase: “You can, as you wish!” – a line often used by Dirk – and the back of the cork is designed to double as a coaster. There is also a leaflet inviting you to explore the essence of the project. Specifically designed and created for this packaging, an exclusive wooden board with a green leather handle and a numbered knife further embody the concept of a “Vintage with the knife in your teeth.” The key chosen by Dirk to open this edition’s box pays tribute to and recalls his father, Rolf, an avid collector of various items—particularly keys—such as the replica included in this release. The numbered label is a unique, innovative piece that embraces the original silk‑screened bottle of the Niepoort Bioma Vintage Vinha da Pisca 2017. Inside, a small comic strip illustrates Dirk and his father’s key corridor, which can be detached and used, for example, as a postcard. Each label features an irreverent image, enhanced by molded relief and stamped foil, and is hand‑applied with resin medals in homage to the six generations of the Niepoort family, inspired by the founder’s symbol that forms the basis of the Niepoort logo. Inside, an excellent Vintage Port that not only respects the terroir but also takes us back to the golden age of Port wine. At the heart of the Bioma Vintage “Vinha da Pisca” concept lies a very special vineyard, located in a uniquely distinctive part of the Douro region. What we aim to do is offer, with small productions, an old‑school method of making a Vintage, similar to the Vintage Ports of 1970 and earlier, bottled in England. The exceptional quality of the grapes from the old vines of Vinha da Pisca seems to express its sense of “place” magnificently when we apply the “logic” of earlier times. Winemaking: The year 2017 will be remembered for intense heat and historically low rainfall, but the harvest, at the perfect moment of ripening, allowed the grapes to be received in ideal conditions with fantastic natural acidity. All the grape bunches from the Bioma Vintage were hand‑crushed at our Port wine vinification centre in Vale de Mendiz. After fortification with grape spirit, the Port was allowed to stabilise during the winter. In spring, the wine was transferred to a cooler part of the cellar at Quinta de Nápoles and placed in traditional 550‑litre barrels (pipas). By ageing this Port in pipas within a cool cellar in the Douro region, rather than in large vats in Gaia, and bottling the Bioma “Vinha da Pisca” three years after harvest, we were able to produce an exceptionally complex wine. Interestingly, this is how it was done in the “good old days,” when wines were shipped in pipas to England and bottled later. Allergen information: Contains sulfites. SKU: 105911
