Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has come a long way, establishing itself as one of Portugal's most innovative wine producers. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal began its expansion, acquiring estates across the country and setting new standards for the production of quality wines. Regarded as the most beautiful country estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is a former property of the Portuguese Royal Household. Located in Azeitão, the Quinta and the famous Bacalhôa Palace constitute an artistic monument of great importance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, which is owned by the family of the same name, whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. On June 23, 1910, it was classified as a National Monument. In the area surrounding Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors will find picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of the most beautiful and imposing landscapes in Portugal: the Arrábida Natural Park.
