Description

The name Passagem is a tribute to the disused railway line that once crossed the estate from which these wines come, Quinta das Bandeiras, located in the heart of the Upper Douro. This Reserva, made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Sousão grapes, spent 18 months maturing in French Allier oak barrels. It is a seductive, concentrated wine with soft tannins and abundant ripe fruit and herbaceous notes, promising excellent bottle ageing. Quinta de la Rosa has been a pioneer in the Douro region, renowned for its premium wines and port, with a history that began in 1815. Despite some changes, it has always remained in the hands of the founding family, and in 1988 it re-entered the market with the production of the house’s first port. Today, Quinta de la Rosa is represented by the wines Quinta de la Rosa and Quinta das Bandeiras, recognized not only for the quality of their ranges but also for their hotel and restaurant unit, offering a fresh perspective on the Douro. Quinta de la Rosa spans about 62 hectares along the north bank of the river, producing enriched wines with notable levels of acidity, minerality, and freshness. Quinta das Bandeiras, with its Passagem wines, is a 100‑hectare estate acquired in 2005, of which 38 hectares are planted with vines. (Illustrative image only)
