Pegos Claros The Pegos Claros wines showcase the ultimate expression of a unique terroir: old Castelão vines, unwatered, grown on the sandy soils of Palmela. The vines are divided by age, with the oldest being centenarian, yielding low production and high aromatic concentration. The exclusive use of Castelão in almost all our wines gives them a distinctive character and strong appeal, allowing the development of a coherent and varied portfolio. PRIMO, because it is the first Pegos Claros wine that is not 100 % Castelão, and therefore PRIMO also because it is a close relative of our other wines. We were surprised by this rare and exclusive blend: 85 % Castelão and 15 % Tintinha, approached with a differentiated and artisanal enology. It ferments with a “engão” in 500‑L French oak barrels, vertical, without caps. After manual pressing, it ages for a year in the same barrels and then in bottle in the cellar for at least two years. Pegos Claros wines have remarkable personality, balance and elegance. With a minimum bottling maturation, our wines are ready to drink and at the same time hold great aging potential. “Pegos Claros wines are special anywhere in the world. The age of the vines on these sandy soils gives them an unparalleled body and personality.” – Bernardo Cabral, winemaker Awards 2016 vintage: 94/100 – Wine Enthusiast, June/July 2022 2016 vintage: 95/100 – RobertParker.com, review by Mark Squires, April 2022 2015 vintage: 91/100 – RobertParker.com, review by Mark Squires, December 2018 2015 vintage: 18/20 – Grandes Escolhas, review by Nuno Oliveira Garcia, June 2019 Allergen information Contains sulfites.
