This “Piano” from the Douro certainly put up a spirited fight in its youth – a vigorous fermentation of 10 to 28°C for a good ten days! The result is well worth it: a wine of deep colour, brimming with floral notes and ripe fruit, thanks to a blend of Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional and Aragonez. The producer’s careful approach to ageing in new oak – minimising those tell-tale “toasted and smoked” flavours – yields a beautifully smooth tannin structure, perfectly complementing dishes of red meat – a truly impressive performance, as they say!
