“This 2005 Poças Reserva is a remarkable wine, defying its age with a deeply opaque ruby colour. As Robert Parker noted with his 92 points, it offers a wonderfully elegant structure, driven by concentrated dark fruit – think ripe blackberries – interwoven with a subtle sweetness and a whisper of white pepper. The ageing in 300-litre Allier oak barrels adds delicate vanilla notes, but thankfully, the wine retains the freshness and acidity that come from the famed ‘Vinhas Velhas’ vines and the classic Touriga Nacional and Aragonez grapes. A truly excellent match for grilled red meats and mature cheeses.”
