After making seven vintages as a winemaker at the Old Real Company, Jorge Moreira felt the need to start an individual project where he could apply his ideas and control the entire production process. No compromises, a wine that would be the reflection of his interpretation of the Douro. In 2001 he launched the Poeira project in Provesende, along a slope in the Pinhão valley on the right bank of the river of the same name. The Vinha da Torre vineyard, situated in Covas do Douro, was planted in 1950. It is an old vine with good rootstock, vines in excellent condition, and altitude and sun‑exposure characteristics that fit perfectly with the Poeira philosophy. Here you find all the concentration and complexity of the Douro, but without excesses, resulting in a wine of great elegance and balance. The Vinha da Torre Tinto 2018 was produced from old‑vine vines with a blend of varieties, in slate soils at 400 m altitude. The harvest is manual, in 20‑kg crates, and fermentation takes place in a tank, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels and a 16‑month aging in French oak barrels. Bottling occurred in September 2020, and the total production was 3,100 bottles. This wine has a total acidity of 5.9 g L⁻¹ (tartaric acid) and a pH of 3.57. The Vinha da Torre Tinto 2018 reveals all the authenticity of the Douro, reflecting the tradition of old vines and the attention to detail at every stage of production, from harvest to bottling.
