This Porta de Teira seems to have been born from a near-obsessive pursuit of perfection – a producer relentlessly striving to outdo themselves. The winemaking is decidedly unconventional, eschewing filtration and stabilisation, which might result in a few intriguing sediment “artefatos” in the bottle, adding to the experience. With 18 points from Revista de Vinhos, the wine presents a rich colour, heavily influenced by Touriga Nacional, a true classic of the Tejo region. It’s impressively structured, yet its elegance stems from exceptionally fine tannins and a beautiful balance of juicy fruit and violet nuances. The terroir – those clay-calcareous soils and the Mediterranean climate – clearly plays a part, contributing to the wine’s characteristic equilibrium, a pairing particularly well-suited to robust red meats.
