Description

The Herdade do Monte da Ribeira dates back to 1958 and was acquired in 1986 by industrialist Victor Carmona e Costa, who over the following 15 years not only completely renovated the estate but also established its current agricultural production structure and cellar. The estate is situated in the civil parish of Pedrogão, part of the municipality of Vidigueira, near the village of Marmelar. It covers roughly 1,100 hectares devoted to viticulture and forestry. With wine production as one of its main focuses, the first vineyard was planted in 1989 and the first harvest was made in 1992, marketed under the Vidigueira label. Later the Pousio and Quatro Caminhos labels were added, and more recently the Marmelar brand. (Illustrative image only)
