This “Prohibited Clarete” feels like it’s stepped straight out of a time when life was a little less complicated – and the wines, undoubtedly, were altogether more appealing. Born from the ancient vines of the Douro Superior, with a generous blend of white and black grapes, it’s brimming with a freshness that whispers of bygone days. The spontaneous fermentation, combined with foot-treading in a small, traditional lagar, and ageing in 225L used oak barrels, has gifted it a complexity that beautifully balances its lightness. Don’t anticipate a wine that will overwhelm you; instead, prepare to be pleasantly surprised by its persistent notes of red berries – particularly strawberries – and its delightful ability to complement a good fish or a subtly spiced cuisine. Quite simply, a wine to be enjoyed without fuss, but with the assurance of a vineyard that's witnessed the passing of time.
