This Douro from Quinta Carqueijal is a delightfully surprising proposition. The blend of Viosinho, Fernão Pires and Malvasia Fina – typically found in more restrained wines – is given a welcome kick by a touch of Cerceal, resulting in an unexpectedly complex expression. It’s a wine that, despite lacking the widespread recognition of some of its peers, deserves close attention, particularly alongside a robust cured cheese.
