This Vinho da Alameda Reserva Especial, harvested by hand with 18kg boxes, certainly delivers an experience. The slow maceration during fermentation coaxed out the best of the Vinhas Velhas grapes, revealing aromas of wild blackberry and blackcurrant, with a subtle hint of spices reminiscent of the forests of Bertrange and Tronçais. Following a year in new French oak barrels, the result is a dry wine with firm tannins and a refined structure, boasting a long, lingering finish that’s particularly well-suited to accompanying a hearty roast or, perhaps, a lamb dish infused with fragrant herbs.
