Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has charted a long journey, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company’s activity began with the production of wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring properties across the country and creating new paradigms for quality wine production. The Quinta da Bacalhôa is considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the Quinta and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great importance to the country. Today, the Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Fundação Berardo, which is associated with the family bearing the same name and whose patriarch is Comendador José Berardo. On June 23, 1910, it was classified as a National Monument. In the surrounding area of the Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
