This Touriga Nacional from Quinta da Boa Esperança is a wonderfully intense wine – a lovely tension between firm tannins and a zesty acidity. You get a real sense of the concentration that this celebrated grape variety is known for, with notes of ripe red berries, perhaps a touch of plum, and a subtle earthy character reflecting the incredible terroir of the Douro Valley. Seriously impressive, and a perfect match for a hearty grilled beef or a good wild boar roast. The silver medal from Vinho de Peito de Portugal certainly validates its quality.
